Experts Registration

REGISTRATION AND PRACTICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERTS

Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental Audits (EA) are carried out by Environmental Experts Registered by NEMC as required by the Environmental Management Act, 2004.According to the Environmental Management (Registration and Practice of Environmental Experts) Regulations, 2021, the Registrar of Environmental Experts is the person who is mandated by Law to register Environmental Experts. Regulation 24.-(1) states that a registered environmental expert in any category shall not conduct any environmental study without a practicing certificate.

NEMC is also responsible for overseeing the conduct of Environmental Experts and may take disciplinary actions including suspending or de-registering an Environmental Expert from the Register of Environmental Experts.

Persons desiring to practice as Environmental Experts shall apply to the Council by filling in prescribed forms accompanied by non refundable fee. They may apply as Individual Experts or Firms of Environmental Experts. Environmental Experts with practicing certificates and who are not in default are the ones eligible to submit their EIA/EA reports to the Council (Both Individual and Firms) and are displayed on NEMC’s website with their contacts and the list is updated periodically. Applications for registration and practicing certificates are throughout the year including for foreigners who can be issued practicing permit any time to carry out studies for a specific assignment.

New and existing Environmental Experts (both Individuals and Firms) are required by the Council to lodge their applications online through eia.nemc.or.tz.
